BEHIND THE PHOTO - YEMAYA'S TEARS

Yemaya's Tears.png

This creative edit of a self portrait was inspired by my love of the ocean.
I often seem to find myself drawn to the spirit of Yemaya/Yemoja and her dominion over the ocean and the source of all waters.
I imagine that her tears are what fill our oceans and that they flow heavily now with the destruction of our planet caused by humans triggering global warming and the pollution we spread.
Sea levels are rising, cities and entire countries are feeling the effects and we really need to do better. We only have one earth.

To create this image I used an outtake from a self portrait session, using my Fujifilm XH-1 and 23mm 1.4 lens that I did the day before, and a iPhone photo I took out of the plane window as I flew back into Trinidad in March 2020, just a few days before they closed the borders of the country due to COVID-19.  I also used a few overlays, including the waterfall, the rainbow, the tape, and the earth. Not feeling like getting on my computer, I decided to create this whole thing on my iPad using Procreate.

Here’s the time-lapse GIF of that edit. Ignore the give quality…lol
